Inside the Earth
SM

Field Experience
Grades 2-8

Inside the EarthSM is a unique and fun educational experience that takes students out of the classroom to learn about rocks and minerals in their local community. Each program is held in a local gravel pit or quarry and features a hiking trail and rock/mineral scavenger hunt. The tours are led by trained instructors, and are designed to support earth science taught in the classroom. Content is tailored to the age and interest of each group. The list below highlights some of the concepts taught in the field: earth processes, geologic time, stone processing and use, groundwater systems, landforms and glaciers, weathering and erosion, field identification of rocks and minerals, and fossil identification (where available).
